Dr. Gary Demerjian, DDS

Gary Demerjian, DDS – UCLA School of Dentistry – Dr. Demerjian currently treats adolescents and adults with tmj/mpd-mayofascial pain disorders using custom fabricated orthotic appliances, myriad of therapeutic techniques and orthodontics. He also treats patients suffering from neurologic disorders with dental management of the disorder through his TMJ treatments. He has published several articles and research papers including how the trigeminal system correlates to neurologic disorders. Since 2004, he has limited his practice to the treatment of TMJ Disorders, Headaches, Facial Pain, Sleep Apnea, Movement Disorders and Orthodontics. Along with two busy practices, Dr. Demerjian also lectures on topics in Temporomandibular Joint Disorders and its correlates on neurologic disorders.

Barbara Black, CCHt is on the International Pain Foundation Board of Director. She grew up on a farm with simple enriched values from her parents. From as far back as she can remember she knew she wanted to help people in any capacity possible. She always had a sensitivity for those who seemed to be struggling in some area of their life and has always felt the need to want to listen and hear their “story” and help them through it. She has been encouraged throughout her life to expand on her gift of truly caring and giving back. After working 30 plus years in the medical field she has found her passion of helping others through hypnotherapy/guided imagery. She has made it her mission to guide you to the discovery of your inner true self, explore new awareness and open your mind, body and spirit to endless possibilities. Dr. Jeff Scholten has been in private practice in Calgary, Alberta, Canada since 2001. He is the clinic director and owner of The Vital PostureTM Clinic. Dr. Scholten is a Board Certified Diplomate in Chiropractic Craniocervical Junction Procedures and is currently the only Canadian to hold the distinction of being a Fellow in Chiropractic Craniocervical Junction Procedures. He was selected as the Upper Cervical Chiropractor of the Year in 2015 by the International Chiropractic Association’s Council on Upper Cervical Care. Dr. Scholten is President of the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association (NUCCA) and also serves as a member of the board of directors of the International Chiropractic Association’s Council on Upper Cervical Care, the Upper Cervical Research Foundation (UCRF) and the Ralph R. Dr. Nell Smircina is a licensed acupuncturist and Co-founder of PIQUE Integrative Medicine in Beverly Hills, CA. Her doctoral research centered around using acupuncture for post-surgical patients to optimize their recovery, particularly in the area of chronic pain prevention. Since completing her doctorate, she has broadened the applications of that research to benefit any patients experiencing pain. Outside of her practice, Dr. Smircina sits on the board of CSOMA, the largest acupuncture association in California. She also teaches orthopedics for future acupuncturists, serves as a consultant for companies in the Eastern Medicine arena and is constantly working to expand awareness of the benefits of acupuncture within the growing field of Integrative Medicine

Brandy Gillmore, Ph.D. – is a world-renowned speaker and mind/body healing expert. She is most well-known for her discoveries in using the mind to heal the physical body. She commonly coaches people to release their own chronic pain, even within minutes, using only their mind. Brandy’s expertise in self-healing originated from her own devastating injury, where she found herself— disabled, in extreme pain, and using a wheelchair, cane, or walker to get around. That’s when she began to research and began making her own discoveries for healing. Brandy was able to make a full recovery and since then has been featured on stages internationally, given a mind-expanding TEDx Talk. Elliot B Lander, M.D. F.A.C.S. is a Board-Ceritified Surgeon. He was born in Los Angeles, California. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Occidental College with Distinction in Biochemistry. He attended medical school at the University of California, Irvine. He was a Clinical Assistant Professor of Urology at UC Irvine while in practice in Orange County for five years. During that time he was active in teaching residents and doing research.
Maggie Buckley, Patient

Maggie Buckley has been a volunteer patient advocate for more than 25 years while living with the chronic pain condition Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. She has served on the board of several non-profit patient and professional organizations including her current role with PainCommunity.org. Her volunteer experience has been with a varied group of non profit organizations in the healthcare, social justice and education sectors. She has testified at state and federal policy hearings, written articles and coached hundreds of people to self-advocate for better care. Maggie has an MBA in accounting with experience in banking and business management.

Philip Getson, D.O. is a family physician in practice since 1976 in New Jersey. He is a locally, nationally and internationally recognized expert in the diagnosis and treatment of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy/Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and has lectured extensively on the subject. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in Neurology at Drexel University Hospital in Philadelphia. Daniel G Garza, certified HIV counselor, tester, educator, advocate, public speaker, actor, stand-up comedian, podcaster and Reiki Master. From the age of 13, Daniel hid his sexuality until he was “outed” to his family at age 17. At the age of 30, Daniel was diagnosed with AIDS, at 45 diagnosed with anal cancer, and at 46 had surgery for a colostomy. Daniel speaks very openly about his physical ailments, as well as his mental health and the diagnoses of anxiety, depression, and health-related PTSD.

He is also Asst Professor at University of Western Ontario. He did most his Anaesthesia training in the United Kingdom including Great Ormond street hospital for sick children in London UK. Has worked as Consultant Paediatric Anaesthesiologist in Bristol UK before migrating to Canada in 2014. He established Paediatric Chronic pain program at London Ontario in 2015 along with like help of like-minded healthcare professionals serving the children of Southwest Ontario. His main interests are Paediatric Chronic Pain, Quality initiative Paediatric Anaesthesia, Service, teaching and training developments in Paediatric Anaesthesia. Dr. Andre Barkhordarian is a Project Scientist and a Lecturer in the Division of Oral Biology and Medicine at the UCLA School of Dentistry. He chairs an advanced course in Osteoimmunology and teaches courses in Immunology, Bone Biology, Biostatistics (research design, methodology, data analysis), Evidence Based Medicine and Dentistry. He is the faculty lecturer for the UCLA Pre-College Science Education Program, the STEM pipeline programs at UCLA School of Dentistry, and was the faculty consultant at the UCLA Graduate Division collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to increase fellowship resources. His early research interests developed in the field of stem cell research. Vera Stewart-Lutz, CCHt is a certified clinical hypnotherapist practicing in Gilbert, AZ, and the founder of Solutions Hypnotherapy. She is a member of two professional organizations, one of which is the International Medical and Dental Association (IMDHA). Her goal is to reduce the stress a person is experiencing as a hospital and/or surgical patient through the use of hypnosis. Less stress allows the body to focus attention on its natural course of healing.
